Beauty Buzz - L'Oreal to buy Urban Decay

Hey ya'll

so if you don't know the beauty world is abuzz at the moment with L'Oreal's announcement to buy Urban Decay now I have been scouring the L'Oreal web pages looking for a official press release I cannot find a official release on any of the L'Oreal pages (if any of you know leave the link in the comments below ;p) but I have taken this from a article written by the The Guardian though if you google  L'Oreal to buy Urban Decay you will find a slew of information.
French beauty giant L'Oréal is attempting to raise its street cred with the acquisition of edgy makeup brand Urban Decay.

The financial details were not disclosed but it is thought L'Oréal paid $300-400m (£187-250m) for the California-based company, which is owned by private-equity firm Castanea Partners.

Urban Decay crashed on to the beauty scene in the mid-90s with eye-catching packaging and products with names like Stray Dog, an ash-brown eye-shadow, and the pale purple Asphyxia.

The deal will give L'Oréal another entry into the fast-growing area of specialist brands, which it says represents 44% of the luxury makeup market in the US.

Nicolas Hieronimus, the L'Oréal Luxe president, said: "It is the makeup specialist we needed to fully satisfy young women in search of playful colours and inspiration, at an accessible price point."

Urban Decay makeup is sold through specialist retailers, such as Sephora, or online shops, but this deal will extend its reach across the globe.

Tim Warner, the general manager of Urban Decay, said: "L'Oréal's strong innovation capabilities and presence in every channel of distribution will enable Urban Decay to reach its full potential in the marketplace."

French conglomerate LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton bought Urban Decay in 2000, selling it to private equity three years later

So the big controversy is that Urban Decay is a recognised Cruelty free company certified with the leaping bunny symbol... A symbol that they nearly lost early this year when they announced they would be selling their products in China where it is required by law that all cosmetic products are tested on animals.... Need less to say there was a massive back lash from the beauty world and Urban decay quickly rescinded the idea Urban decay have release a short statement

"Though our ownership is changing, our policies are not. We just spoke to both the CCIC and PETA, and will keep our cruelty-free bunny icons. Urban Decay is staying cruelty-free and proud.”

And while Urban Decay are against animal testing L'Oreal not so much there is much questioning if L'Oreal will attempt to have Urban Decay released in China (therefore having products tested on animals) or if L'Oreal will allow Urban Decay to stay true to their creed.

I am going to be veryinterested to see where this goes a lot of people have already claimed that they will now no longer support Urban Decay as they dont want to support a Non-curilty free 3rd party the real question is going to be will Urban Decay be able to stand being in a negative light once again? and will they become TOO main stream taking away form their unique flare? These questions will deffinetly be answered in time I am sure!

Another thing I will be interested to see will be if L'Oreal will allow Urban Decay into Australia to set an attraction for the younger generation and if so will be become a 'everywhere department store' brand like we see L'Oreal here in Australia? If so that would be a big boost for L'Oreal as here in Oz we don't have really 'fun, young' brands...

Whats your opinion on the takeover?

A Review - Shadow Shields

House Keeping – all products below have been purchased with my own money and I am not in any way shape or form getting paid for this review. All opinions are my own!!!

Hey Ya'll

So I don't know about you guys but when I apply eye colour (particularly with loose pigments) I get TERRIBLE fall out and it ALWAYS seems to be when I am applying a dark crease colour or some super saturated blue! I must add that I do my foundation FIRST before do my eye make up so therein lies my problem!

I have tried EVERYTHING to avoid this Tipping my head back slightly, vigorously tapping my shadow brush to get rid of excess, holding a tissue under my eye... All with poor results for a while I would apply a heavy layer of translucent powder under my eyes and brush it off once my makeup was done and that worked for a while until one day after I did this and took a photo I was left with 2 HUGE white patches under my eyes horribly UNATTRACTIVE!

I was at a loss what to do so I made a coffee and googled and up came my saviour Shadow Shields. Shadow Shields is an American based company, that started with an idea and now is featured in a range of popular magazines! Shadow Shields are now becoming introduced into main stream stores in smaller packs then what I have photographed. However for us international ladies and gents we are left to order on line (which is simple) for a box of 30 it costs $9.99 USD +S&H Shadow Shields ship world wide at a reasonable price and whats even better they accept pay pal!

This ingenious product comes as a half circle with 4 individual areas on the back to un-peel to apply on the face the top 3 are really all you need to remove for application.

The Official Shadow Shields sells the product as a one use item, which would defiantly be correct when using them on a client! However for personal use I can get between 4-6 uses (on both eyes) I unstick the middle part first and once that runs out of stick I remove the backing to ONE of the sides ect...

Shadow Shields are gentle enough to use that they don't pull on the skin OR remove any face make up! the actual 'shield' appears to be a porous fabric (to be honest it reminds me of a dressing we use in the hospital called Hyperfix)

The offical ingredients list -  Polyester nonwoven, acrylic adhesive, silicone coated paper

The Shadow Shield webpage has also mentioned that if you apply the Sheild a little higher and use the edge to help you create a 'wing' handy for those starting out or not confident with a winged eye.

In my opinion these are a great little product, handy to keep in your kit for those painstaking smokey eyes or if you are a little heavy handed with pigment (guilty)

what method do you use to prevent fallout fails?

Hey Ya'll

Black Friday & Cyber Monday are going to be upon us soon (for those who don't know Black Friday is an American holiday known for massive sales the day after Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday is when there are a lot of Internet sales) and that means the Indy world will be crazy I have in my hot little hands 2 completely new and unreleased colours from Tick Tock Cosmetics Black Friday/Not Christmas collection called The End of the World (regarding the hype over 2012). I haven't got any pricing yet but will keep you all in the loop and once I get my Hands on the other 3 colours I will review them for ya'll =)

The colours (as always with TTC products) are named around a time theme in the case of this collection there is also a added end of the world twist. As a TTC model I received Doomsday Clock and Mayan Calendar to review/use. Out of the two Mayan Calendar is my favourite, this shade is very easy to incorporate into a range of looks.

Both Colours preformed poorly on bare skin they were quite patchy however over the white and black bases they were both opaque and were not patchy, though BOTH colours preform best over a sticky base such as Fyrinnae's Pixie Epoxy or Madd Style Cosmetics Awsum Sauce.

Doomsday Clock
TTC Description  - A muddy, greenish yellow with green sparkles.
My Description - Almost a chartreuse leaning more yellow with some glitter and a satin finish
Mayan Calendar
TTC Description - A deep, metallic gold
My Description - A metallic Bronze gold

What company (Indy or otherwise) are you stalking for Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales?

Hey Ya'll

Let's talk gloss... or more importantly HOLO-gloss... I purchased a single Holo-gloss a while back for a 3mL click pen it costs $5.25 USD. Holo-glosses are sheer colours that have a beautiful finish, these glosses are great to layer over lipsticks/stains. McSwatchy apart of the Blogger collection (named after indivitual bloggers) Sue the owner has individual ingredients lists for each item which is good especially for people with allergies.

McSwatchy Ingredient list
Ingredients: Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Sweet Almond Oil, Bee's Wax, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Ethylene/Propylene/Styrene Copolymer, Butylene/Ethylene/Styrene Copolymer. Also contains: Synthetich Fluorophylogoptie, Silica, Titanium Dioxide, Tin Oxide and FD&C Red #40

McSwatchy Sadly dosnt last on me it wears extreamly fast even when avoiding food and drinks so i do find my self frequently applying. The gloss isnt 'goopy' it applys well and dosent turn tacky. As mentioned above McSwatchy is a great colour to layer over any red, orange or darker shades of brown.

Colour Description
Darling Girl - Soft golden berry with loads of gold and pink holo-sparkle
My Description - A reddish brown packed with Gold and red holo-glitter

Have you tried Darling Girl holo-glosses?

This blush is avaiable through the MSC artfire page a full size 10g jar is $6.76 UDS and a Delux sample (which is over 1/4th of a full sized product) retails for $1.93 USD. This blush is the first in the MSC first ever line of blushes. This is a BEAUTIFUL pink blush that is similar to the discontinued Urban Decay blush Quickie except Rebel Lollipop is about a shade and a half lighter. This is a Universally flattering colour that is buildable. This order was shipped well within the TAT and arrived in Australia about 2 weeks after Shipping Confirmation

I have swatched Rebel  Lollipop over a eye primer and bare skin as I HAVE used it as a eyeshadow previously =) all swatches are slightly on the heavy side to show the colour build up.
